kentucky colonels emergency alert jordan palmerFollowing is a press release from the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management (KYEM).

Central & Southern Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels Secretary-General Jordan Palmer asked that neighbors and everyday citizens lend a helping hand to others in need.

Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) activated the Commonwealth’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on Sunday in preparation for a powerful winter storm that is expected to bring heavy snowfall across the Commonwealth.

Computer models indicate accumulations that vary from 6 to 16 inches across the Commonwealth, on Monday and Tuesday.

The Commonwealth’s EOC activated at Level Four Operations at 8 p.m. on Sunday night. At Level Four Operations, additional personnel are activated in order to provide situational awareness to the Kentucky Department of the Military, the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management, and locally elected officials.

Road conditions throughout the Commonwealth can be found on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s website at www.511.ky.gov, by calling 511 in Kentucky or 1-866-737-3767 for out-of-state callers. Additional winter safety tips, including winter driving tips, can be found on the KYEM website at www.kyem.ky.gov.

Should you be found without electric, water, food, prescription medication, please contact your local safety officers or notify your emergency manager for emergency shelter or any other assistance to Commonwealth can provide: http://kyem.ky.gov/teams/Pages/countydirectors.aspx

Kentucky Colonels Shop LocalCol. Brandon Combs, the Adjutant to the Secretary-General of the Central & Southern Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels urges political candidates to continue to purchase campaign materials locally instead of using businesses located outside the commonwealth of Kentucky.

“Election year is prime time to increase gross revenue for local T-shirt companies, sign companies, and printing companies,” stated Adjutant Brandon Combs.

“I’m sure local businesses in Kentucky are grateful for the business, and supporting local businesses supports your local economy, something which isn’t true when purchasing from online companies or corporations located outside the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This also keeps local citizens employed, so please continue to call local business proprietors or their general managers, customer service managers, decorators, designers, or print managers.

Remember that every $100.00 spent with a local business, $68.00 is returned to your local community compared to zero when purchasing political materials from companies outside Kentucky.

We pushed this concept in partnership with American Express for Small Business Saturday, however, it should be used every day of the year to patronize our local economic systems instead of economic systems in competing states.”

The Central & Southern Kentucky Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels for active members of the Honorable Order. God save the Commonwealth of Kentucky!

In 1813 when Governor Isaac Shelby named one of his officers, Charles Todd, as an “Aide-de-Camp” on the Governor’s staff with the rank and grade of Colonel.

Later Governors commissioned Colonels to act as their protective guard; they wore uniforms and were present at most official functions. Other Governors continued this practice and by 1920’s their numbers had grown considerably. In 1932, The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels was formally established as “a great non-political brotherhood for the advancement of Kentucky and Kentuckians.”

“In the Commonwealth of Kentucky, commissioned Kentucky Colonels are considered members of the Governor’s Staff and his honorary aides-de-camp, and as such are entitled to the style of ‘Honorable’ as indicated on their commission certificates. The commission and letters patent granted by the Governor and Secretary of State bestowing the title of Kentucky Colonel refers to the honoree as ‘Honorable (First Name and Last Name)’. The person may also be referred to a Colonel (Last Name).”
